چکیده
Digital image correlation (DIC) is a popular optical strain measurement technology for deformation analysis in rock mechanics laboratory testing. Although reliable and repeatable, traditional gauge extensometer techniques have drawbacks including high recurring cost limited spatial distribution of data. DIC utilizes continuous photography computer software to track paint speckle pixel displacements material deforming under load, producing full-field map each recorded increment. presents an opportunity overcome the limitations methods, significant precision care required typical total 0.005 mm (0.01% strain) Brazilian tensile stress (BTS) tests igneous sedimentary specimens measuring 47.6 diameter. For algorithms precisely individual pixels between frames, it often necessary apply unique pattern conforming several criteria specimen. A variety application been reported literature; however, importance high-quality resulting influence on accuracy results frequently overlooked. The testing program this research utilized 2-Dimensional BTS investigate cost, efficiency, ease application, effectiveness methods. In addition spraypaint, airbrush, stamp innovative laser engravement technique was developed that provides more results. This practical recommendations small 2D measurements.

The small size of mesoand microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices presents several challenges for full-field deformation measurements. A hybrid system combining Digital Image Correlation (DIC) for in-plane deformation and Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry (ESPI) for out-of-plane deformation measurements has been developed for working with these small size scales. Measurement of th...
متن کاملQuality assessment of speckle patterns for digital image correlation
Digital image correlation (DIC) is an optical-numerical full-field displacement measuring technique, which is nowadays widely used in the domain of experimental mechanics. The technique is based on a comparison between pictures taken during loading of an object. For an optimal use of the method, the object of interest has to be covered with painted speckles. In the present paper, a comparison i...
متن کاملA three-frame digital image correlation (DIC) method for the measurement of small displacements and strains
Digital image correlation (DIC) has become a well-established approach for the calculation of full-field displacement and strains within the field of experimental mechanics. Since their introduction, DIC methods have been relying on only two images to measure the displacements and strains that materials undergo under load. It can be foreseen that the use of additional image information for the ...
متن کاملEquivalence of digital image correlation criteria for pattern matching.
In digital image correlation (DIC), to obtain the displacements of each point of interest, a correlation criterion must be predefined to evaluate the similarity between the reference subset and the target subset. The correlation criterion is of fundamental importance in DIC, and various correlation criteria have been designed and used in literature. However, little research has been carried out...
متن کاملOn the Use of Acoustic Emission and Digital Image Correlation for Welded Joints Damage Characterization
A series of tests have been conducted to investigate fatigue damage characterization in corroded welded steel plates using structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques. Acoustic Emission (AE) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique with potential applications for locating and monitoring fatigue cracks in service. In the present work, AE is implemented to characterize damage during crack e...
